Restoration of Façade (HSA-UWC)
An eight-story Renaissance Revival building near the United Nations Headquarters, designed by Clarence S. Luce and constructed in the 1890s. Initially a Columbia University Club, it now serves as the headquarters of the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC), hosting NGOs.
The building features ornate stone, terra-cotta, and marble work with Juliette balconies, a cornice, and balustrade. Prolonged neglect led to unsafe conditions, necessitating urgent restoration. Comprehensive repairs addressed structural issues, including terra-cotta cornices and water infiltration damage using innovative methods like strap-and-bolt systems.
All facades were restored to NYC DOB “SAFE” classification, ensuring structural integrity.
